  • Note that players who check in late but before the end of Round 1 might still be denied participation depending on the state of the tournament (number of participants, etc.)
  • If a player is not seated at their table when a round starts, they will be considered as having lost the match.

*In that case, if by the end of that round that player has not expressed their intent to keep playing, they will be considered as having dropped from the event.

During and Between Matches Participants are required to check all of the following rules below:

Please follow instructions from staff members and sit at your designated table.
Tables will be sufficiently spaced from each other.

About submitting match results:
A staff member will come to retrieve the match slip.
Please remain seated after the match is over.

Parents’ Guide
  • All child participants must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times during the tournament. Parents should remain on-site to keep track of their children and, of course, to celebrate their play. Tournaments usually take several hours, so parents might want to bring a book or some other quiet activity to occupy their time.

  • Parents have responsibilities at events as well. It is important that participants are allowed to play at their own pace. Players are learning to concentrate on complex strategies and concepts, which can sometimes be frustrating. Additionally, a match should not be interrupted while in progress. If you, as a parent, have a question about anything, please ask a staff member away from the match. We understand that parents get excited and often want to help their children do well. However, please remember that coaching during a match is not allowed. If you would like to talk to your child about strategies, sportsmanship, or anything else, please refrain from doing so during a match. You might be surprised to learn that, although it is a competition, players often provide advice and play tips between matches. So, even if you think your child missed something or made a mistake, their opponent may point it out before you even get a chance.
