2022 Pokémon World Championships Quick Interview Summary

The 2022 Pokémon World Championships are in full swing, with Trainers from all over the world competing in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Pokémon GO, Pokkén Tournament DX, and Pokémon UNITE at ExCeL London.

During the event, we got the chance to have a quick conversation with players from Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines Trading Card Game Masters Division about their thoughts and experiences during The World Championships.

We picked up 1 question from each player to be featured in this Article, check them out below! (some questions are summarized from the original video interview.)

Wayne Tan – Singapore (2021-22 Season Champion)
Q : What are you most excited about in this event?
A : Something important about worlds is making new friends and having intense battles with a lot of the professionals players around the world

Christian Sky – Philippines (2021-22 Season Champion)
Q : In your opinion, what decks to look out for in this year’s WCS?
A : I think Mew Vmax is the deck to look out for in this TCG World Championships. Because it is under the radar for most players but it still performs very well.

Athavan Akilan – Malaysia (2021-22 Season Champion)
Q : How do you feel about this year’s WCS?
A : This year WCS is really nice, really fun! It’s very big and it’s good to see all players coming back and playing back at this event.

Jackson Tham – Singapore
Q : Which match gives you the most impression?
A : My 5th game against Ben Cryer. My game plan and tech against Mewtwo V-Union paid off.

Low Kien Xun – Malaysia
Q : What are you most excited about in this event?
A : I’m excited because this is the first time I have joined the world championship and it’s really an unforgettable experience and memory.

Lee Keng Fai – Malaysia
Q : After 2 years of pandemic, how do you feel competing in this year’s WCS?
A : I feel very excited to be able to travel again and play against some of the best players in the world.

Arwin Adriano – Philippines
Q : Any match leaves the most impression on you?
A : I only played in Day 1 of The World Championships, it was the 4th round when I played against Thomas Vander from Slovakia. He was a very good player, with a great personality and I really liked him a lot. I liked the way he played, very surprising plays that really caught me off guard but definitely a very good match.

Sui Kai – Singapore
Q : How do you feel about this year’s WCS?
A : I feel this year’s World Championships is really organized. It’s really huge, has a big venue, and is spacious. It makes me feel comfortable playing.

Adrian Acuzar – Philippines
Q : What will you be expecting for the next season?
A : The meta will shift to the Lost Zone mechanics. Because there are so many good cards in the upcoming sets.

Edmund Khoo – Singapore
Q : What will you be expecting for the next season?
A : I’m actually a bit worried about next season. I hope I can do well in the local tournament, I will work very hard and I will play a lot of games every week to be back here next year.

There are definitely lots of things that can’t be expressed with words only but, we hope everyone enjoyed their time in London! Next year The 2023 Pokémon World Championships will be held in Yokohama, Japan. This will be the first time that the Pokémon World Championships take place in Japan, so it’s bound to be an incredible event!
