Parents Guide
  • All child participants must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times during the tournament. Parents should remain on-site to keep track of their children and, of course, celebrate their play. Tournaments usually take several hours, so parents might want to bring a book or some other quiet activity to occupy their time.

  • Parents have responsibilities at events, as well. It is important that participants are allowed to play at their own pace. Players are learning to concentrate on complex strategies and concepts, which can sometimes be frustrating. Also, a match should not be interrupted while in progress. If you, as a parent, have a question about anything, ask a staff away from the match. We understand that parents get excited and often want to help their children do well. Please remember coaching during a match is not allowed. If you would like to talk to your child about strategies, sportsmanship, or anything else, please refrain from doing so during a match. You might be surprised that, although it is a competition, players will provide advice and play tips between matches. So, even if you think your child missed something or misplayed, their opponent may point this out before you even get a chance.
COVID-19 Policy Please refrain from entering the venue if any of the following applies to you:
  • People with a fever (of 37.2°C or higher)
  • People with symptoms such as a sore throat, headache, joint pain, breathing difficulties, coughing, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, and loss of smell or taste.
  • We also ask that the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, who are more at risk of severe symptoms, exercise the utmost caution when considering attending the event.
  • People who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
  • People waiting for the results of a PCR test or antigen test for COVID-19
  • People who were in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
  • People living with family or close acquaintances who might have COVID-19.
  • People who have traveled in the past 2 weeks to a region on the government’s list of areas subject to denial of entry or requiring quarantine upon return
  • Likewise, people who have been in close contact with a resident of such regions
