  • What is HP?
    HP is a Pokémon’s Health Points, like its stamina. If a Pokémon takes damage equal or above its HP count, it is Knocked Out.
  • What does "Asleep" mean?
    "Asleep" is a Special Condition afflicted to Pokémon by effects from the opponent's attacks and such. To show a Pokémon is Asleep, it is turned to the side. An Asleep Pokémon cannot attack nor retreat.     A Standard deck is a 60-cards deck. It can contain up to 4 cards with the same name. When playing with Standard decks, games are played with 6 prize cards per player.

    They're the power source that allows Pokémon to attack or retreat. The term "Energy" sometimes refer to Energy cards themselves, not just the Energy they supply.

    Yes, the Pokémon's owner should be the one flipping the coin. If flipping for both Burned and Asleep, they should flip two coins separately.
  • How many Trainer cards with the same name can I put in my deck?
    There is a limit to how many cards with the same name (except for Basic Energy) you can put in your deck: up to 2 for 30-cards half decks, and up to 4 for 60-cards standard decks.
  • What is the difference between Abilities that can be used "Once during your turn" and those that can be used "As often as you like during your turn"?
    When an Ability's text says "Once during your turn", it means you can use that effect once during each of your turns (not once per game).If an Ability's text says "As often as you like during your turn", it means you can use it any number of times during the same turn.

    There is a limit to how many cards with the same name you can put in your deck:- For a 30-cards deck: 2 cards - For a 60-cards deck: 4 cards However, if a card has a special rule written on it, that takes priority over the rule above. You can put any number of Basic Energy in your deck.
  • When the deck needs to be shuffled, who should do the shuffling?
    Players should shuffle their own deck.
  • What should I do during my turn?
    First, you must begin your turn by putting one card from the top of your deck into your hand. Then you're free to do the following actions:1. Play Pokémon from your hand to your Bench 2. Play Evolution Pokémon cards from your hand on top of your Pokémon to evolve them 3. Play Trainer cards from your hand 4. Retreat your Active Pokémon to the Bench 5. Use Abilities 6. Attach one Energy from your hand to one of your Pokémon You can then finish your turn either by using an attack with your Pokémon, or by passing your turn.

    Play a game of rock-paper-scissors: whoever wins gets to decide who goes first.
  • Why should I put Pokémon on my Bench?
    When your Active Pokémon gets Knocked Out, you must choose one of your Benched Pokémon to replace it in the Active Spot. If you don't have any Benched Pokémon to put in the Active Spot, you lose immediately.
  • When my Active Pokémon retreats, what happens to the Energy attached to it?
    If it has a Retreat Cost, discard that many Energy from it. Then any remaining Energy remain attached to it as it swaps places with a Benched Pokémon.
  • At the very beginning of the game, during each player's first turn, can they evolve any of their Pokémon?
    No, they can't. Pokémon that were put in the Active Spot or on the Bench while setting up for the game are treated as if they'd just been played this turn, and thus cannot evolve yet.
  • After Knocking Out a Pokémon with an attack, the Prize card I drew was a Basic Pokémon. Can I play it on the Bench immediately?
    No, you can't. Since your turn ends when you use an attack, you'll have to wait until your next turn to play Basic Pokémon on your Bench, including the one you drew as a Prize card.
  • How are Trainer cards played?
    When using a Trainer card, play it from your hand, read out its effect, and do what's written on the card.
